Abinader proposes stronger Dominican Republic-Peru ties after bilateral meeting with Fujimori

New York.- President Luis Abinader concluded his working visit to New York on Monday with a bilateral meeting with Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori, focused on strengthening relations and identifying new areas for cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, Abinader expressed his interest in maintaining strong relations with Peru and taking existing ties to a new level.

“We always wanted to have the best relations with Peru, to strengthen our ties. I believe we can take them to new levels,” Abinader said.

Speaking to reporters afterward, the Dominican president highlighted the historic relationship between the two nations and said there remains room to expand their potential.

The meeting also addressed areas including security, artificial intelligence, cultural heritage protection, disaster resilience, sustainable development and economic and trade relations, according to the Peruvian government.

Abinader said it was his first meeting with Fujimori since she assumed the Peruvian presidency. Both leaders exchanged invitations to visit each other’s countries.
