Abinader says Meta RD 2036 is advancing toward goal of doubling economy by 2036

New York.- President Luis Abinader said Tuesday that Meta RD 2036 is making satisfactory progress as a joint public-private platform aimed at identifying areas that require changes or further consolidation as the country works to double the size of its economy by 2036.

Speaking to reporters after the International Forum Meta RD 2036 for Full Development, Abinader said the initiative has become a monthly platform for evaluating progress and identifying measures needed to advance its objectives.

As an example, he pointed to the reduction in poverty, saying the rate fell from 25.9% in 2019 to 17% last year and is expected to continue declining this year.

Dominican Republic to receive FAO Zero Hunger recognition

Abinader also announced that the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will formally recognize the Dominican Republic for achieving the Zero Hunger target.

The recognition and certificate are scheduled to be presented on October 10 in Rome, Italy. The FAO previously confirmed that the country had reduced the prevalence of undernourishment below the international threshold used to define hunger.
