Aerodom projects 1.9 million seats at Dominican airports for winter season

Santo Domingo.- Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), part of the Vinci Airports network, expects approximately 1.9 million international seats across its airports during the 2026–2027 winter season, a 4.9% increase from the previous season.

The projection includes more than 10,500 departing flights and eight new international destinations, further strengthening the Dominican Republic’s air connectivity with key tourism and business markets.

Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) will account for more than 1.5 million seats, up 3.4% year over year. New connections include Rome with ITA Airways, marking the first direct route between Santo Domingo and Italy; Montreal with Air Canada; Houston with United Airlines; and Paramaribo, Suriname, with Fly Always. Additional services to Caracas and Cap-Haïtien will also expand connectivity from Santo Domingo.

Several airlines are increasing capacity at SDQ. JetBlue will boost its Fort Lauderdale service by 128%, while American Airlines will increase Philadelphia flights from 24 to 153 during the season. Avianca will add 41% more seats to Bogotá, Iberia will increase Madrid capacity by 19%, and Copa Airlines will add 15% more seats to Panama. Aerojet will also increase its Boston service by 67%.

At Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) in Puerto Plata, capacity is expected to grow 8.8%, led by a 28% increase in seats from the Canadian market. Flair Airlines will add flights from Toronto and Montreal, WestJet will launch service from Winnipeg, and Air Transat will add a route from London, Ontario. New direct connections to Bogotá, including services by Wingo, and increased Copa Airlines capacity to Panama will further expand regional connectivity.

President Juan Bosch International Airport (AZS) in Samaná will record the largest percentage increase in the Aerodom network, with scheduled seats rising 29%. Canadian capacity at the airport is expected to grow by nearly 40%, driven by additional WestJet and Air Canada service to Montreal.

Canada is expected to remain one of the main drivers of growth, with more than 230,000 seats scheduled across Aerodom’s airports, a 33% increase from the previous winter season, equivalent to approximately 58,000 additional seats.

The increase in air connectivity coincides with Aerodom’s investment program at Las Américas International Airport, which includes a new passenger terminal with an investment of RD$24 billion, rehabilitation of the main runway and installation of an automated baggage handling system. The projects are intended to increase operational capacity and improve safety, efficiency and service quality.
