AMCHAMDR applauds extension of HOPE and HELP programs for Haiti

Santo Domingo.- The American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) welcomed the U.S. Congress’ final approval of legislation extending the Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity through Partnership Encouragement (HOPE) and Haiti Economic Lift Program (HELP), which now awaits the U.S. president’s signature to become law.

AMCHAMDR said the extension will support Haiti’s garment industry, which benefits from preferential access to the U.S. market, while helping preserve formal jobs and encourage investment.

The chamber also highlighted the programs’ role in a regional supply chain linking Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the United States. Under this model, U.S. raw materials are processed into textiles in the Dominican Republic and later used by Haitian manufacturers to produce goods for the U.S. market.

AMCHAMDR Executive Vice President William Malamud said a more stable and prosperous Haiti would benefit the entire region by strengthening trade, investor confidence and economic integration.

The chamber reaffirmed its support for policies aimed at promoting economic opportunities and regional stability through stronger ties among Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the United States.
