American Airlines launches new digital tools to make bookings easier

American Airlines has launched new digital features designed to make every step of the travel process, from booking to airport transit, easier.

When booking, travelers can now use Venmo to pay for their flights on the airline’s website. Venmo joins Apple Pay as one of the latest flexible digital payment options added to the airline’s website.

In addition, American says it plans to add the ability to make payments with Venmo to its mobile app in the near future.

As part of its latest set of digital enhancements, the airline is also providing passengers with more transparent and detailed information about flight delays and cancellations through its app, as well as via email, text message, and on its website.

The airline recently launched an innovative digital platform that allows passengers to manage their bookings independently and access applicable vouchers for hotels, meals, and ground transportation. In addition, passengers whose bookings have been modified now check in automatically after a flight disruption.

American Airlines also makes it easy for passengers to enroll in the TSA PreCheck Touchless ID program. This initiative allows PreCheck members to access a faster lane at security checkpoints, which uses facial recognition instead of scanning boarding passes and ID.

In August, the airline will allow eligible travelers to opt for contactless identification during the online check-in process on its website.

New digital tools are being implemented as American Airlines makes a concerted effort to leverage technology and improve the travel experience, especially at its hub airports like Dallas-Fort Worth. At its main hub in DFW, American is launching new products, such as electronic gates, that will further streamline departures.

“Technology should simplify travel, not complicate it,” said Heather Garboden, director of customer service at American Airlines.

“Our goal is to create digital experiences that simplify travel and give customers greater confidence at every stage of the process,” he said.
