Ángel Martínez sentenced to suspended jail term

Santo Domingo.- Broadcaster Ángel Martínez was sentenced Tuesday to three months of suspended imprisonment and ordered to pay RD$2 million in civil damages after being found guilty of defamation and slander against Congressman Sergio Moya.

The ruling was issued by Judge Clara Luz Almonte, who found Martínez responsible under Articles 21 and 22 of Law 53-07 on High Technology Crimes and Offenses. The legislation penalizes the dissemination of defamatory and offensive content through electronic media and digital platforms.

In addition to the suspended sentence, the court ordered Martínez to compensate Moya for the damage caused to his image and reputation. The case stems from accusations made by the broadcaster against the legislator, also known as “Gory” Moya.
