APORDOM upgrades tourist and fishing docks across the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) has launched a nationwide preventive maintenance program for tourist and fishing docks, aimed at improving port infrastructure, enhancing maritime safety, and supporting tourism and coastal economic development.

The initiative includes technical inspections and maintenance tailored to the specific needs of each dock to preserve operational capacity and extend the lifespan of the facilities.

Work being carried out includes the application of anti-corrosion and waterproofing treatments, replacement of wooden decking, installation and repair of lighting systems, and maintenance of cleats and mooring equipment to ensure safer vessel operations.

Maintenance has already been completed at the docks in Palenque, Cabo Rojo, Miches (La Yeguada), Boca de Yuma, Isla Saona (Catuano), and the Boca de Yuma breakwater, while work is currently underway at the Sánchez dock.

According to APORDOM Engineering Director Juan Miguel de los Santos, the program is designed to prevent infrastructure deterioration through early intervention, improving safety and efficiency for fishermen, maritime operators, visitors, and coastal communities.
