Arajet captured more than 10% of the Dominican air travel market in May
Santo Domingo.- Dominican airline Arajet achieved the best month in its history during May 2026, transporting more than 183,000 passengers across its network and further strengthening its position as one of the fastest-growing airlines in the Caribbean and Latin America.
According to figures released by the Civil Aviation Board, Arajet carried more than 163,000 passengers to and from the Dominican Republic during May, excluding connecting travelers. The performance represented over 10% of all passenger traffic entering and leaving the country during the month, making Arajet the third-busiest airline in the Dominican market, behind only JetBlue and American Airlines.
When including passengers connecting through the airline’s hubs at Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, total traffic surpassed 183,000 travelers, setting a new monthly record for the carrier. The results underscore the success of Arajet’s hub-and-spoke model and its strategy of positioning the Dominican Republic as a key air connectivity center for the Americas.
Among its destinations, Buenos Aires generated the highest passenger volume in May, followed by New York, Miami, Medellín, and Bogotá. The United States remained Arajet’s largest market, accounting for approximately 23% of total passengers, while Argentina represented 18% and Colombia 17%. Together, these three markets generated nearly 60% of the airline’s passenger traffic.
The latest figures also highlight the growing importance of Dominican airlines within the national aviation sector. Of the 176,201 passengers transported by Dominican carriers during May, Arajet accounted for 94%, reinforcing its leadership among locally based airlines and supporting the country’s ambitions to become a major aviation hub in the Caribbean region.
