Arajet overtakes American: it is now the second airline with the most passengers transported in the Dominican Republic
In September 2026, Arajet transported 158,407 passengers, excluding connecting passengers, surpassing American Airlines, which registered 115,406, and ranking as the second-highest airline by passengers transported to and from the Dominican Republic, behind JetBlue.
According to statistics from the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), the Dominican airline registered 62% growth compared to September 2015, when it transported 97,797 passengers. This result is even more significant because, according to internal company data, the total number of passengers transported in September, including connecting flights, reached 180,841.
JetBlue topped the list with 243,955 passengers, while Arajet came in second, ahead of Copa Airlines, which recorded 122,220 passengers; American Airlines, with 115,406; Delta Air Lines, with 94,763; and United Airlines, with 94,288.
September 2026 statistics show that the United States consolidated its position as Arajet’s main market, with 43,021 passengers transported, followed by Colombia, with 35,413, and Argentina, with 21,164 passengers.
Mexico ranked fourth with 16,356 passengers, followed by Puerto Rico with 8,628; Peru with 7,407; Brazil with 7,117; and Canada, with 5,609 passengers.
By individual route, Bogotá, Colombia, topped Arajet’s list of destinations in September, with 18,413 passengers transported, followed by Newark in the New York metropolitan area, with 16,952, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, with 16,025.
The city of Miami, United States, ranked fourth with 15,654 passengers, followed by Medellín, Colombia, with 15,569; San Juan, Puerto Rico, with 8,628; Lima, Peru, with 7,407; and São Paulo, Brazil, with 7,117 passengers.
“This result represents a new step in Arajet’s evolution since we began operations in 2022 and strengthens our position as one of the leading players in air transport in the Dominican Republic. We are demonstrating that a Dominican airline can compete with major international carriers, conquer new markets, and contribute to making our country a new air hub in the Americas,” said Víctor Pacheco, CEO and founder of the airline, in a statement released to the media.
He emphasized that Arajet’s growth reflects a strategy focused on expanding air connectivity, offering competitive fares, and making it easier for more passengers to travel between destinations in the Americas through the Dominican Republic.
“Our commitment is to continue strengthening the country’s connectivity, attracting new visitors, and generating greater opportunities for tourism, trade, and the Dominican economy. These results demonstrate the enormous potential the Dominican Republic has to consolidate itself as one of the region’s main air hubs,” he added.
