Asomaprom calls on Abinader to use wholesalers for imported agricultural products

Moca.- The president of the Moca Association of Wholesale Provisioners (Asomaprom), Ysmael Rodríguez, urged President Luis Abinader to channel imported agricultural products through the country’s wholesale sector, arguing that the measure would help reduce the cost of the basic food basket and ensure consumers receive food at fair prices.

Speaking at the closing of Expo Moca 2026, Rodríguez said wholesalers play a key role in connecting agricultural producers with Dominican households and welcomed the president’s recognition of the sector during his visit to Espaillat province.

Rodríguez also praised the Dominican Republic’s recent removal from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Hunger Map, describing it as a major achievement for the country’s agricultural sector. He stressed that continued government support is essential to strengthen national production and improve competitiveness.

Rodríguez described the 34th Expo Moca as one of the fair’s most successful editions, citing record attendance, strong sales, and the participation of more than 50 exhibiting companies. He said thousands of visitors took advantage of discounted products during the five-day event and thanked sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees for their support.
