Beto Cuevas debuts in Santiago with an acoustic journey through his musical history
The Chilean-Canadian singer presented his “Acoustic” show for the first time in the Heart City, inspired by La Ley’s historic MTV Unplugged.
Beto Cuevas arrived in Santiago for the first time and turned Saturday night into an acoustic journey through different stages of his career, from the hits that marked his career at the front of La Ley to his songs as a soloist, in a performance that lasted from 8:45 pm to 10:51 pm.
The stage of the Restoration Hall of the Gran Teatro del Cibao welcomed the Chilean-Canadian singer with “La Mitad”, a song that marked the beginning of a repertoire that continued with “Día Cero”, “Vuelvo”, “Paraíso”, “Intenta Amar”, “Hombre” and “Animal”.
- From his very first words, Cuevas found a link between Santiago de los Caballeros and his hometown .
“I’m in Santiago for the first time, and we also have something in common. This city is called Santiago, and I was born in Santiago, Chile,” he said.
The artist said he had been able to see part of the city during his visit, including its main monument, and thanked the public for the welcome.
Musical journey
“I’ve been able to see a little bit of the city, its main monument, and its people. Above all, what characterizes them. So thank you very much for the affection, the respect, and for being with us tonight , ” he said.
A tribute to La Ley‘s Unplugged album
Before performing “Aquí”, Cuevas explained that the show is part of a tour that began last year and, according to him, has already exceeded 40 performances in Latin America.
The concept is related to the historic “MTV Unplugged” that La Ley recorded in 2001, a production that marked an important stage in the Chilean group’s trajectory.
“It’s a tribute album to the famous album we made with La Ley in 2001, in La Ley Unplugged,” Cuevas explained.
Before beginning “Here”, he also invited the attendees to focus on the present moment.
“I invite you to live in the present, today, now,” he expressed.
The tour continued with “Cielo Market”, “ Prisoners” and “Out of Me”, before moving on to “Everything is Perfect” and “Krazyworld”.
Collaboration with Javi Flores
One of the highlights of the night was the appearance of singer Javi Flores, whom Cuevas introduced as an artist he discovered while serving as a judge on a talent show in Chile.
The singer said he was surprised by her vocal abilities and stated that, in his opinion, she is “ the best singer in Latin America. “
“This girl can’t just get lost in a talent show; she needs to go out and be known all over the world,” Cuevas said before asking for applause for Flores.
The singer took to the stage and performed alongside Cuevas in “Todo es perfecto” (Everything is perfect), a new song created especially for this project, which they both recorded as part of the acoustic proposal.
The artist also told Flores that, for both of them, it was practically their first experience in Santiago de los Caballeros.
Sounds, music and a pause for reflection
The show included a segment identified as “Raymond”, followed by “La Luna” and a sound bath, at which point Cuevas thanked the concert producers for making the proposal possible and spoke about the effect of the sounds on the mood of those who have witnessed the show.
During that speech, he also highlighted the link between music and medicine and thanked those who participate in this part of the experience.
“Music is what we do in medicine for ourselves, and being able to share it with you throughout our history. Your music has literally been medicine for us,” he expressed.
The repertoire continued with “Enjoy the Silence” and “Talk to Me”.
Later, Cuevas introduced and thanked the musicians who accompanied him throughout the evening before continuing with “Al final”, “Mentira”, “Tejedores de ilusión”, and “Delirando”.
A message about peace
During one of his remarks, the artist also spoke about peace and the importance of values when choosing those who hold leadership positions.
“I respect everyone’s opinion, but I think it’s important—especially when the time comes to elect leaders who will become the leaders of our nations—that we choose wisely, above all based on their values,” he said.
Cuevas also referred to his residence in the United States and expressed his support for peace.
A Closing with the Classics
For the final part of the concert, Cuevas saved songs closely tied to his career and the repertoire the audience was hoping to hear.
“Creep” gave way to “El duelo”, one of the iconic songs from his time with La Ley, followed by “The Corridor” and “Más allá”, with which he concluded the performance at 10:51 p.m.
The show “Beto Cuevas Acústico” brought to Santiago a performance centered on the voice, acoustic arrangements, and a close connection with the audience, reviving songs from different stages of a three-decade career.
The performance at the Gran Teatro del Cibao marked Cuevas’ first appearance before an audience in Santiago, following his performance in Santo Domingo and as part of a tour that has brought the show to various venues across Latin America.
Diario Libre had previously announced that the show would arrive in the Heart City as a tribute to the musical experience La Ley created with their memorable 2001 Unplugged performance.
