Bisonó calls for new stage in economic relations between Dominican Republic and Canada
Canada.- Foreign Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó called for a new stage in economic relations between the Dominican Republic and Canada, with greater cooperation and investment in technology, innovation, advanced manufacturing, and clean energy.
Speaking at the Toronto Global Forum 2026, Bisonó highlighted Canada’s role as one of the Dominican Republic’s key economic partners, particularly in mining and tourism. He noted that Canada ranked second among sources of foreign direct investment in the Dominican Republic, with accumulated investments of US$6.107 billion between 2010 and 2025.
The minister identified opportunities in medical devices, electronic components, aerospace, digital technologies, advanced manufacturing, and clean energy, areas in which the Dominican Republic seeks to attract higher-value investments.
Bisonó said the government’s economic diplomacy aims to connect Dominican and international businesses, attract capital and technology, expand market opportunities, and promote productive development and competitiveness.
He also invited Canadian and other international investors to explore opportunities in the Dominican Republic and build new partnerships. Following his presentation, he participated in a discussion on trade, investment, and economic cooperation with Francisca Insulza, president of the International Economic Forum of the Americas.
