Bisonó reaffirms Dominican support for Haiti’s security and stabilization

Santo Domingo.- Foreign Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó reaffirmed the Dominican Republic’s support for international efforts to combat gang violence and restore stability in Haiti during a virtual meeting with Daniela Kroslak, head of the United Nations Support Office in Haiti.

Bisonó highlighted the close coordination between the Dominican government and the United Nations to monitor developments in Haiti, including the security situation, the deployment of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), and its logistical needs.

The foreign minister said the government of President Luis Abinader is closely monitoring events in Haiti and their potential impact on Dominican national security, particularly along the border. He reiterated the country’s willingness to support international efforts within its capabilities.

Kroslak provided an update on the GSF’s deployment, including the incorporation of additional personnel and efforts to secure accommodation, food, and medical services for the force. She said the deployment is progressing, although work remains on its command structure, operational coordination, and support mechanisms.

Kroslak also thanked the Dominican Republic for its support and praised its continued cooperation with international efforts to address Haiti’s security crisis.

Both officials agreed on the importance of maintaining direct communication to monitor developments and identify new opportunities for cooperation.
