Carolina Mejía named honorary ambassador of Dominican Larimar
Santo Domingo Mayor Carolina Mejía has been named an honorary ambassador of Dominican larimar by the Association of Handicraft Producers of Santo Domingo.
The recognition was awarded by consensus among members of the artisan sector during celebrations marking National Artisan Day. Mejía was also selected as Queen of Larimar 2026-2027 during a ceremony held at Santo Domingo City Hall.
Mejía expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a privilege and a commitment to promote larimar, a gemstone closely associated with Dominican cultural identity.
“I accept this recognition and will continue to promote this national treasure, highlighting to the world this blue that identifies us as a Caribbean people,” Mejía said, adding that she hopes larimar will continue to contribute to the international image of the Dominican Republic.
Association President Pedro Francisco Morrobel said the recognition reflects Mejía’s contribution to promoting, valuing, and increasing the visibility of larimar in the Dominican Republic.
