Casa del Cordón welcomes 150 archaeology and history experts from 25 countries

Santo Domingo.- The Taíno Cultural Center Casa del Cordón, an initiative of Banco Popular Dominicano, hosted the welcome reception for the XXXI International Congress of Caribbean Archaeology, bringing together more than 150 archaeologists, anthropologists, historians, and cultural experts from 25 countries in the Dominican Republic.

As a co-sponsor of the event, Banco Popular welcomed participants ahead of the congress’s academic sessions. During the ceremony, José Mármol, executive vice president of Corporate Communications, Reputation and Responsible Banking at Grupo Popular, emphasized the importance of preserving archaeological and cultural heritage as a foundation for sustainable development.

The Taíno Cultural Center features a permanent exhibition of archaeological artifacts from the García Arévalo Foundation, showcasing the legacy of the island’s first inhabitants and promoting awareness of the Dominican Republic’s indigenous heritage.

Held from July 13–18, the congress serves as one of the Caribbean’s leading academic forums on archaeology, fostering international collaboration, the exchange of research, and initiatives to preserve the region’s archaeological and cultural heritage.
