Chinese Embassy in the Dominican Republic accuses U.S. of ‘intimidation’ and defamation of Chinese tech companies

Santo Domingo.- The Chinese Embassy in the Dominican Republic accused the United States of technological intimidation and political manipulation after Washington warned Latin American and Caribbean countries about alleged security risks linked to Chinese technology companies.

The dispute centers on U.S. concerns over potential espionage, cyberattacks and disruptions to telecommunications networks involving Chinese technology suppliers. Beijing rejected those allegations as unfounded and defamatory, saying they reflect a “Cold War mentality.”

In a statement, the Chinese Embassy in Santo Domingo urged the United States to respect the right of sovereign countries to choose their own technology and cooperation partners and called on Washington to make a more constructive contribution to regional stability and development.

China also defended the operations of its technology companies in Latin America and the Caribbean, including the Dominican Republic. The Embassy said these firms comply with local laws and industry regulations and provide advanced technology at competitive prices while maintaining secure and efficient services.

According to Beijing, Chinese companies have gained broad recognition among local partners and consumers and have contributed to economic development and job creation across the region.

The exchange highlights growing U.S.-China competition over technology and telecommunications infrastructure in Latin America and the Caribbean, with countries in the region increasingly caught between competing security and investment interests.
