COE expands yellow alert for Santo Domingo and 11 provinces
Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) expanded weather alerts across the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, placing 11 provinces and the National District under yellow alert, while maintaining green alerts for six additional provinces due to the threat of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and possible flooding.
According to reports from Indomet and Indrhi, weather conditions are being influenced by a trough, the passage of a tropical wave south of the island and daytime heating effects, which are expected to generate locally heavy downpours, electrical storms, strong wind gusts and possible hail in several regions of the country.
The provinces under yellow alert are Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macorís, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, María Trinidad Sánchez and La Altagracia, along with the National District.
Meanwhile, Duarte — especially the Bajo Yuna area — San José de Ocoa, Peravia, Santiago, La Romana and Samaná remain under green alert.
Authorities warned that the most significant weather conditions are expected in the northeast, the Cibao Valley, the eastern plains, the Central Mountain Range and coastal areas along the Caribbean Sea.
The COE urged residents to avoid crossing rivers, streams and ravines with high water levels and advised against using recreational bathing areas in provinces currently under alert.
