COE issues yellow alert for Santo Domingo and six provinces due to heavy rain
Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) placed seven provinces and the National District under yellow alert, while eight other provinces remain under green alert due to the risk of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong wind gusts forecast by the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET).
According to authorities, a combination of daytime heating, local terrain conditions, and a trough system will increase moisture levels during the afternoon and evening, creating favorable conditions for moderate to heavy downpours across several regions of the country.
The provinces under yellow alert are Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal — especially Villa Altagracia — La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, and the National District. Meanwhile, green alerts remain in effect for San Pedro de Macorís, San José de Ocoa, Santiago, La Altagracia, Duarte, Peravia, La Romana, and El Seibo.
Authorities also issued marine warnings for both the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts, advising operators of small and fragile vessels to remain in port or navigate with extreme caution due to dangerous winds and abnormal wave conditions.
