COE places five provinces under green alert over potential river flooding

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s Emergency Operations Center (COE) has placed five provinces under green alert due to a hydrological pre-alert issued by the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), which warned of the potential for sudden rises in water levels and increased flows in rivers, streams, and ravines, particularly in the border region.

Authorities urged residents to closely monitor rising river levels, especially in the basins of the Los Baos, Macasia, Tocino, Dajabón, Guayubín, Maguaca, Chacuey, San Juan, Arroyo Loro, Jimaní, and Masacre rivers.

The provinces under green alert are:

• Elías Piña
• San Juan
• Dajabón
• Independencia
• Santiago Rodríguez

The COE advised residents in the affected provinces to avoid crossing rivers, streams, and ravines with high water levels and to refrain from using rivers and other swimming areas while the alert remains in effect.
