COE raises alert to yellow in 4 areas amid increased rainfall

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) placed four areas under yellow alert and maintained 10 provinces under green alert due to increased rainfall associated with an active tropical wave affecting the Dominican Republic.

According to the National Meteorological Office (INDOMET), the tropical wave is gradually increasing humidity over the country and maintaining northeasterly winds, creating conditions favorable for downpours, thunderstorms and possible wind gusts.

The areas under yellow alert are:

• Santo Domingo Province
• National District
• San Cristóbal
• Monte Plata

The 10 provinces under green alert are Samaná, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, La Romana, El Seibo, La Altagracia, Sánchez Ramírez, San José de Ocoa, Peravia and María Trinidad Sánchez.

The COE urged residents in the affected areas to exercise caution and avoid crossing rivers, streams and ravines with elevated water levels.

Authorities also advised the public to refrain from using beaches, rivers and other swimming areas in provinces under alert until conditions improve.

The measures remain in place as authorities monitor the evolution of the tropical wave and its potential to generate additional rainfall and thunderstorms across the country.
