COE raises yellow alert for 10 provinces and National District due to heavy rains

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) on Monday placed 10 provinces, including the National District, under yellow alert and kept six provinces under green alert as a trough and increased moisture are expected to produce rainfall across the Dominican Republic.

According to the National Meteorological Office (INDOMET), moisture carried by southerly and southeasterly winds, combined with the trough’s influence, will generate rainfall of varying intensity from the morning hours in areas under alert.

The showers are expected to become more widespread and intensify during the afternoon, with moderate to locally heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts, particularly in the southeast, northeast, and Central Mountain Range.

The yellow alert covers Greater Santo Domingo, the National District, Pedernales, Barahona, Bahoruco, Independencia, Azua, Peravia, San Cristóbal, and San José de Ocoa.

The provinces under green alert are Elías Piña, Dajabón, La Vega, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, and San Juan.

The COE advised residents to avoid crossing rivers, streams, and ravines with high water levels and to refrain from using swimming areas in provinces under alert.
