Constitution Day Constitutionalists commemorate date
The leader of the Constitutionalist Military Foundation, Andrés Fortunato, yesterday called on the national political leadership to prioritize constitutional education and regretted that the celebration of Constitution Day had been moved, arguing that it is not receiving the importance it deserves.
During a floral offering at the Altar of the Fatherland, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 182nd anniversary of the Magna Carta, Fortunato maintained that political parties must assume their responsibility in civic education and promote knowledge of the rights and duties established in the Constitution, as contemplated in article 63, number 13.
“We are saddened that Constitution Day is being moved to Monday as if that day were for drinking rum on the beach and strolling around. Constitution Day is meant to be celebrated wherever there are schools, children, and young people,” he said.
It is also concerning that political organizations focus on proselytizing and discussing candidacies instead of presenting solutions to the country’s main problems and actively defending national sovereignty amid the Haitian crisis.
In that regard, regarding the Haitian crisis, Fortunato proposed creating committees to defend national sovereignty in each province, municipality, and municipal district.
