Costa Rican Security Minister studies Dominican Republic’s security model
Santo Domingo.- Costa Rican Minister of Public Security Gerald Campos visited the Dominican Republic to learn about the country’s security strategies, particularly the coordination model of the Joint Task Force, which has been credited with helping reduce crime and homicide rates.
During meetings with Dominican Interior and Police Minister Faride Raful and other security officials, both countries exchanged experiences on citizen security, crime prevention, and strengthening operational capabilities. The Costa Rican delegation also attended a Joint Task Force monitoring meeting at National Police headquarters to observe firsthand how government, police, and military institutions coordinate efforts against crime.
Campos praised the results achieved by the Dominican Republic’s security system and expressed interest in adapting aspects of the model as Costa Rica develops its own task force. His agenda also included meetings with Defense Minister Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre and a visit to the Armed Forces’ C5i command center to learn about the technological and intelligence tools used to support security operations. The visit reinforces bilateral cooperation between the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica in addressing regional challenges related to crime and public safety.
