Criminal complaint filed against three journalists and Color Visión

Santo Domingo.- Lawyers Francisco S. Durán González, Enrique Alfonso Vallejo Garib and Carlos Julio Martínez Ruiz reported the filing of a criminal complaint with a civil claim against journalists Danny Alcántara, Óscar Medina and Luisín Mejía, as well as Color Visión, Channel 9, which they identify as civilly liable.

The complaint was filed with the National District Prosecutor’s Office on April 16, 2026, over alleged statements made during the November 13, 2025, broadcast of the morning program Hoy Mismo Matinal, which the plaintiffs claim affected their honor and reputation.

According to the complaint, the journalists allegedly made, endorsed or disseminated statements considered defamatory and injurious. The plaintiffs cite possible violations of Articles 21, 22, 60 and 64 of Law No. 53-07 on High Technology Crimes and Offenses.

The case is being investigated by prosecutors María Miguelina Palma and Jhon Richard Suncar, assigned to the Intellectual Property and High Technology Crimes Investigation Department at the Ciudad Nueva Courthouse.

As part of the proceedings, the individuals named in the complaint were summoned to appear before prosecutors on September 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with legal counsel if they choose.

The investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the allegations and whether any legal responsibility arises under Dominican law. The complaint maintains that alleged defamation and insult committed through digital platforms may carry penalties under applicable legislation.
