Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Ministry of Culture will hold the Culture in the South Festival from November 12 to 15 in Azua, featuring 51 activities involving artists, cultural managers and representatives from six provinces.
Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo announced the festival during a meeting with the media at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) Azua campus, which will serve as the event’s main venue. The festival will be dedicated to renowned visual artist Dionisio Blanco in recognition of his career and contributions to Dominican art.
The program will bring together cultural expressions from Azua, San Juan, Elías Piña, San José de Ocoa, Peravia and San Cristóbal, highlighting the region’s artistic traditions and cultural diversity.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, at the UASD Azua Center, with activities beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday, November 15, across different locations on the university campus.
The Ministry of Culture said the initiative seeks to expand opportunities for artistic participation beyond Santo Domingo, encourage collaboration among creators and communities, and promote the circulation of regional talent and cultural expressions.
