DGM strengthens border monitoring to prevent irregular migration

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reinforced its intelligence, inspection, and operational units over the weekend to strengthen surveillance and prevent the entry of irregular migrants amid heightened security operations in Haiti.

DGM Intelligence Director Brigadier General Juan Carlos Vicente Pérez and Migration Control Director Colonel Manuel A. Carrasco Guerrero led a supervisory tour on Saturday and Sunday to assess deployments, particularly in the five border provinces and along major routes connecting the border with urban centers.

Authorities reviewed checkpoints, processing centers, interagency controls, and strategic migration-control points, working alongside the Armed Forces, National Police, and other state security and intelligence agencies.

The DGM also strengthened identity and document checks at official border crossings and implemented biometric registration for everyone entering binational markets. Officials said the measures are intended to prevent criminal groups from entering Dominican territory and improve the country’s ability to respond to developments in Haiti.

Despite the tensions in Haiti, inspections found normal conditions in the Dominican border provinces, with authorities reporting close coordination among migration, military, police, and intelligence units.
