Dominican authorities bring Tetero Valley wildfire under control

A forest fire in the Tetero Valley within José del Carmen Ramírez National Park has been brought under control following a coordinated response by Dominican authorities, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources announced Thursday.

The blaze was detected at around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday through the Ministry’s satellite monitoring system, which provides continuous surveillance of protected areas. Authorities immediately activated emergency protocols and coordinated with the Ministry of Defense and other response agencies.

Forest firefighter brigades were deployed from nearby operational units, while the Ministry of Defense sent an aircraft to assess the fire and transport 25 forest firefighters to the affected area.

Officials said the fire was contained by approximately 8:00 a.m. Thursday. Crews remain at the site to extinguish remaining hotspots and monitor the area to prevent flare-ups.

The Ministry of Environment credited the rapid detection system and interagency coordination for helping contain the wildfire and reiterated its commitment to protecting the country’s forests and protected areas.
