Dominican Defense Ministry says border conditions do not warrant closure

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Ministry of Defense held a strategic evaluation meeting to assess developments in Haiti and their potential implications for national security.

Defense Minister Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre met with the commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force, along with intelligence and operations officials, Cesfront, and the Ministry’s C5i center.

Authorities concluded that current conditions along the Dominican-Haitian border do not warrant extraordinary measures or a border closure. Commercial, social, and daily activities will continue normally, while security agencies maintain close monitoring of developments in Haiti.

The Armed Forces will continue coordinating with other government institutions, sharing intelligence and evaluating potential scenarios to respond promptly and proportionately if conditions change.

Fernández Onofre stressed the importance of maintaining coordination, vigilance, and updated assessments to protect national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security, while avoiding unnecessary disruptions to border communities and economic activity.
