Dominican Migration investigates agents after viral video of migrant transport in San Juan
Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) has launched an internal investigation into two immigration agents after a video circulating on social media showed a Haitian migrant being transported on a motorcycle between the officers in San Juan de la Maguana.
The footage, widely shared on July 21, sparked criticism and questions about whether the transport complied with established security protocols for immigration enforcement operations.
According to the DGM, the agents responded to a report from Plaza Líbano, where the migrant—who authorities said was in the country illegally—was allegedly caught stealing merchandise. The agency said the man resisted arrest and became aggressive, prompting officers to restrain him before transporting him to a detention center by motorcycle.
The DGM added that the detainee’s sudden movements caused the motorcycle to fall during the trip. Despite the incident, the officers continued the transport in the same manner, a scene later captured in the video that prompted the investigation.
