Dominican Ministry of Women calls for helpline information in violence reports
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Women of the Dominican Republic has called on media outlets in the country to consistently include helplines and support services in news coverage related to gender-based violence, domestic violence, and femicides, as part of efforts to strengthen prevention and save lives.
The institution emphasized that journalistic reporting should go beyond documenting incidents and also provide victims and their families with clear, accessible information on where to seek help. It urged that news reports, press releases, interviews, and other related content visibly feature key support channels available nationwide.
Among the highlighted services are the Ministry of Women’s *212 helpline, which offers psychological support, legal guidance, and counseling; the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1 for immediate danger situations; and the Public Ministry’s *211 Life Line, designed to receive complaints and provide assistance in cases of violence.
Authorities stressed that the media plays a crucial social role not only in informing the public but also in helping prevent violence by connecting affected individuals with available protection services. The Ministry also thanked journalists and media organizations for their collaboration and reiterated its commitment to working jointly on strategies to address violence against women and domestic abuse as a broader societal issue.
