Dominican Navy begins delivery of humanitarian aid to Colombia

Colombia.- The Dominican Republic Navy began Thursday the unloading and transfer of more than 49 tons of humanitarian aid transported to Colombia aboard the high-seas patrol vessel Almirante Didiez Burgos (PA-301).

The operation began at 8:00 a.m. Colombian time and is being carried out in a coordinated manner under the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel Gustavo Adolfo Henríquez Ospino of the Colombian Marine Corps.

To speed up the delivery to the communities receiving the assistance, authorities from both countries agreed to dispense with ceremonial activities and focus on the logistical operation.

The shipment consists of 110,530 pounds (49,735 kilograms) of humanitarian supplies distributed across 20 pallets. The cargo includes emergency food, tools, medical supplies, medicines and family hygiene products.

The Dominican Navy said the mission demonstrates the operational capacity of its vessels to provide assistance beyond the country’s borders while strengthening cooperation, solidarity and regional integration between the Dominican Republic and Colombia.
