Dominican Police and U.S. Embassy open liaison office to combat organized crime

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican National Police and the Narcotics Affairs and Law Enforcement (INL) section of the United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic inaugurated a new liaison office at police headquarters to strengthen cooperation in combating transnational organized crime and advancing police modernization efforts.

During the ceremony, National Police Director Andrés Modesto Cruz Cruz and INL Director Rebeca Márquez signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding strategic projects, technical assistance, and training programs in security and law enforcement.

Márquez said the initiative will improve coordination and operational capabilities between both institutions, particularly in addressing organized crime networks that operate across borders. She also recognized the support of the police leadership and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (Dicrim) in establishing the new office.

Meanwhile, Cruz Cruz thanked the United States Government and INL for their continued support of the Dominican Republic’s ongoing police reform process. He emphasized that international cooperation and specialized training are essential to strengthening institutional capacity and providing a more efficient, transparent, and professional police service focused on citizen security.
