Dominican Republic and Belgium hold first Bilateral Political Consultations Meeting
Brussels, Belgium.- The Dominican Republic and the Kingdom of Belgium held their first Bilateral Political Consultations Meeting, marking a new chapter in diplomatic relations that date back to 1891. The meeting took place at the historic Egmont Palace and coincided with the celebration of the First Dominican Week in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The consultations brought together senior officials from both countries to discuss cooperation in key areas, including politics, trade, agribusiness, academic exchange, and economic development. The delegations also exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues, reinforcing their commitment to dialogue and collaboration.
Security cooperation featured prominently on the agenda, with both sides highlighting progress in negotiations on police, maritime, and customs agreements. Officials also noted the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Dominican National Police and the Belgian Federal Police in April 2026. At the conclusion of the meeting, both countries expressed satisfaction with the outcomes and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties based on shared values, international law, and support for multilateral cooperation.
