Dominican Republic and U.S. begin talks on bilateral tariff agenda

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has begun discussions with the United States on the bilateral tariff agenda through the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), seeking to strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries.

The meeting was led by Dominican Foreign Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó and Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Jeffrey Goettman. The talks focused on key trade issues of mutual interest and the next steps in the bilateral process.

The United States remains the Dominican Republic’s largest export market. In 2025, Dominican exports totaled US$14.65 billion, with 48.6% destined for the U.S. market.

U.S. foreign direct investment in the Dominican Republic also reached US$1.04 billion in 2025, highlighting the strength of the economic relationship between the two countries.

The Dominican government said it will continue participating in the dialogue with the goal of strengthening the competitiveness of domestic industries, expanding trade opportunities, and further consolidating the strategic economic relationship with the United States.
