Dominican Republic concludes first Dominican Week in Europe

Belgium.- The Dominican Republic successfully wrapped up its first Dominican Week in Belgium and the Netherlands with an official reception in The Hague, concluding a strategic agenda aimed at expanding political, commercial, academic, and cultural relations with Europe.

Led by Ambassador Carlos de la Mota, the initiative promoted investment, trade, innovation, sustainability, and institutional cooperation while positioning the Dominican Republic as a key partner for European nations. During the week, the Dominican delegation strengthened dialogue with Dutch authorities, advanced cooperation opportunities with the Port of Rotterdam, and hosted the Dominican Republic–Netherlands Business Forum focused on investment, exports, the blue economy, sustainability, and energy transition.

The event also resulted in new academic and scientific partnerships with Wageningen University & Research and IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in areas such as agriculture, food security, climate resilience, water management, and talent development. The week concluded with a cultural showcase featuring Dominican music, gastronomy, rum, merengue, and bachata, reinforcing cultural diplomacy as a tool for strengthening bilateral relations. Organizers described the event as a milestone in expanding the Dominican Republic’s presence and strategic partnerships in Europe.
