Dominican Republic elected First Vice President of OAS Port Committee

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has been elected for the first time to serve as First Vice President of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) of the Organization of American States (OAS), a key regional body that brings together port authorities from across the Americas.

According to the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), the appointment strengthens the country’s role in regional port cooperation and will allow it to participate more actively in initiatives focused on sustainability, technological innovation, port-city integration, infrastructure resilience, and logistics development.

Apordom Executive Director Jean Luis Rodríguez said the designation comes as the Dominican Republic advances major efforts to modernize and expand its port and logistics infrastructure, positioning itself as a strategic hub for trade and connectivity in the region.

The Inter-American Committee on Ports serves as the OAS’s principal forum for port cooperation, promoting the safe, efficient, and sustainable development of ports through technical assistance, training, policy development, and the exchange of best practices. As First Vice President, the Dominican Republic will play a key role in coordinating regional initiatives aimed at strengthening maritime trade, logistics, and connectivity throughout the hemisphere.
