Dominican Republic faces increased rainfall and flood risk through Sunday
Santo Domingo.- Meteorological analyst Jean Suriel forecast increased rainfall across the Dominican Republic over the coming days due to the combination of a trough, humid winds from the Caribbean and Atlantic, and the remnants of Tropical Storm Fay.
According to Suriel, the conditions could bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, increasing the risk of urban and flash flooding through Sunday.
For Thursday afternoon, the heaviest rainfall is expected in the south, southeast, east, northeast, north and the Central Mountain Range, while moderate showers could affect the border region.
Rainfall is expected to intensify Friday with the arrival of a trough and the indirect influence of a low-pressure system in the Atlantic. Moderate to heavy showers could continue Saturday and Sunday, with thunderstorms, strong winds and possible hail in mountainous areas.
Suriel expects rainfall to decrease Monday as the trough moves away, although scattered showers could persist due to marine moisture and the remnants of the system. Temperatures are also expected to become very hot.
