Dominican Republic hands over ICPEN presidency to Georgia
Punta Cana.- The Dominican Republic officially concluded its term as president of the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network, handing over leadership of the global organization to Georgia during the closing session of ICPEN’s annual assembly, which brought together representatives from nearly 50 countries.
During the ceremony, Eddy Alcántara, who served as ICPEN president for 2025-2026, transferred leadership to Irakli Lekvinadze. Alcántara highlighted achievements made during the Dominican Republic’s presidency, including stronger international cooperation, greater coordination among regulatory agencies, and initiatives aimed at protecting consumers in digital and cross-border markets.
He noted that the Dominican administration helped promote best practices, support fairer and more transparent markets, and strengthen global enforcement of consumer protection regulations. Alcántara also emphasized that leading ICPEN elevated the Dominican Republic’s international profile and reinforced its commitment to consumer rights.
The annual assembly also addressed key issues affecting consumers worldwide, including e-commerce, deceptive business practices, product safety, and emerging technologies. Delegates from member countries praised the Dominican Republic’s leadership and expressed interest in adopting several consumer protection initiatives developed during its tenure, citing their positive results both domestically and internationally.
