Dominican Republic hands regulatory improvement network coordination to Peru

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has handed over the general coordination of the Ibero-American and Caribbean Network for Regulatory Improvement to Peru following the organization’s 15th Ordinary Meeting, which brought together representatives from more than 20 countries.

Public Administration Minister Sigmund Freund formally transferred the coordination to Jorge Luis Reyes de Castro Mesa, Secretary of Public Management of Peru’s Presidency of the Council of Ministers. Freund thanked member countries for their confidence in the Dominican Republic’s leadership over the past year and expressed confidence in Peru’s ability to continue the organization’s work.

During the two-day meeting, held at Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) with technical support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the OECD, participants discussed regulatory quality, administrative simplification, artificial intelligence, and ways to strengthen government institutions.

Freund also presented the Dominican Republic’s chapter in the book Regulatory Improvement in Latin America, highlighting the country’s progress under Law 167-21 on Regulatory Improvement and Simplification of Procedures. He noted that the legislation established governance mechanisms and procedures for developing, publishing, and reviewing regulations and was later amended to make processes more efficient for government institutions and citizens.

Among the international participants were OECD and IDB officials, as well as representatives from Chile, Mexico, Bolivia, Colombia, Brazil, and other countries. Dominican officials also participated in discussions on administrative simplification, regulatory quality, and digital government.
