Dominican Republic imposes temporary ban on unauthorized agricultural burning
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has strengthened its nationwide strategy to prevent forest fires by increasing military surveillance, patrols and intelligence operations, while imposing a temporary ban on unauthorized agricultural burning.
The coordinated plan, implemented with support from the military and emergency response agencies, aims to contain the recent rise in forest fires and ensure those responsible are prosecuted.
Environment Minister Paíno Henríquez stressed that more than 90% of forest fires are caused by human activity, warning that offenders will face legal consequences for threatening the country’s forests, water resources and biodiversity.
Authorities said fires in key areas, including Valle Nuevo, Armando Bermúdez National Park and Las Terrenas, are currently under control. They added that Resolution 0030/2026 requires prior authorization for all agricultural burning through Aug. 31.
