Dominican Republic launches Cyber Cluster to strengthen digital resilience
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has officially launched the Cyber Cluster Dominican Republic, a new public-private initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s cybersecurity ecosystem, fostering innovation, developing specialized talent, and enhancing collaboration among key players in the technology sector.
The organization was established to help improve the nation’s digital resilience at a time when cyber threats are increasing worldwide. According to international estimates, global cybercrime costs could reach US$10.5 trillion by the end of 2025, highlighting the growing need for coordinated cybersecurity strategies.
The Cyber Cluster brings together leading companies and organizations in the sector, including IQTEK, Mastercard, Sophos, Sofistic, ESET, GBM, Digito, Fortinet, and Cloudflare. The initiative is supported by the National Cybersecurity Center of the Dominican Republic (CNCS) and the Latin America and Caribbean Cyber Competence Centre (LAC4).
The founding board will be led by Niurka Hernández of IQTEK as president, with Cristian Rosa of ESET serving as vice president. Other board members include representatives from Mastercard, GBM, ECIJA, Digito, and Fortinet. Rosa’s appointment reinforces ESET’s role in the initiative, bringing expertise in cybersecurity research, threat analysis, and digital awareness programs across Latin America.
The organization’s objectives include promoting knowledge exchange, encouraging best practices, supporting cybersecurity education, and strengthening cooperation between businesses, government institutions, academia, and industry specialists. Leaders of the initiative said the cluster will help accelerate a safer digital transformation while positioning the Dominican Republic as a regional hub for cybersecurity and technological innovation.
The official signing ceremony took place at the INDOTEL Digital Culture Center, bringing together representatives from the country’s business, technology, and institutional sectors. Organizers emphasized that the cluster represents a significant step toward building a more secure, resilient, and collaborative digital environment for the Dominican Republic.
