Dominican Republic launches electronic passport services at Punto GOB Santiago

Santiago, DR.- The General Directorate of Passports officially launched electronic passport services at the Punto GOB Santiago office on Monday, as part of the Dominican Republic’s digital modernization and public service transformation strategy.

The launch ceremony was led by Passport Director Lorenzo Ramírez and OGTIC Director Edgar Batista, who highlighted the initiative as a major step toward improving document security, institutional interoperability and citizen services.

The electronic passport, introduced nationwide in January 2026, features an integrated chip that securely stores biometric and personal data, providing higher levels of identity verification and protection against forgery or document alteration. Authorities noted that the passport complies with international standards for electronic travel documents, helping streamline immigration procedures and strengthen border security.

Officials also emphasized the technological capabilities of Punto GOB Santiago, including biometric data capture, digital application processing and integrated customer service systems designed to improve efficiency and reduce wait times for users.

Batista stated that the incorporation of the electronic passport strengthens the centralized citizen service model promoted through Punto GOB offices, while Ramírez said the initiative represents a significant advance in the country’s digital transformation efforts and will help facilitate international travel for Dominican citizens.
