Dominican Republic loses mixed 4×100 relay gold after disqualification

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s mixed 4×100-meter relay team was disqualified after initially winning a medal at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, following a successful protest over rules violations.

Competition officials ruled that the Dominican quartet committed “obstruction in the first exchange and lane infringement in the third,” resulting in the team’s disqualification and the loss of the medal, which would have been the country’s 19th gold of the Games.

The relay team featured Mayobanex De Óleo, Fiordaliza Cofil, José González and Liranyi Alonso. According to the protest, Cofil obstructed the Colombian team during the second leg of the race.

The Dominican delegation has filed an appeal against the decision.
