Dominican Republic opens FAO Hall and showcases national art in Rome
Rome.- President Luis Abinader and First Lady Raquel Arbaje inaugurated the Dominican Republic Hall at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) headquarters in Rome, reaffirming the country’s commitment to fighting hunger, improving nutrition and advancing food security.
During the ceremony, Abinader described the space as a symbol of the Dominican Republic’s commitment to the Zero Hunger initiative and human dignity, saying it should remind Dominicans of the country’s responsibility to continue addressing hunger and improving living conditions.
FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu welcomed the initiative, noting that securing a dedicated space at the organization’s headquarters is a privilege and strengthens the Dominican Republic’s presence and participation within FAO. He also expressed hope that the hall will host seminars and other activities.
As part of his Rome agenda, Abinader also presented the FAO Museum with a sculpture by Dominican artist Juan Trinidad, highlighting the country’s artistic and cultural heritage on the international stage.
Trinidad said the donation was an opportunity to showcase Dominican art and culture internationally.
The event concluded with the ribbon-cutting ceremony officially opening the hall, which the Dominican government described as a lasting representation of its commitment to food security, nutrition and the well-being of its population.
