Dominican Republic partners with Uber Eats to strengthen small businesses
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs) and Uber Eats have signed a collaboration agreement aimed at strengthening domestic trade and supporting the growth of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in the Dominican Republic.
The agreement marks the first partnership between Uber Eats and a public institution in the Caribbean region. It seeks to leverage the platform’s digital ecosystem to increase the visibility, reach, and sales capacity of MSMEs, while improving their operational efficiency through technology.
The deal was formalized by Industry and Commerce Minister Yayo Sanz Lovatón and Marco Nannipieri, Regional General Manager of Uber Eats for the Andean Region, Central America, and the Caribbean. Under the agreement, Uber Eats will support the MICM’s Business Roundtables for MSMEs by promoting their initiatives, campaigns, and promotional activities through the app.
As part of the collaboration, MSMEs participating in MICM programs will benefit from greater visibility on the Uber Eats platform, as well as direct access to information about certification processes for SMEs and women-led businesses. Uber Eats will also participate in MICM events across its operating regions.
Minister Sanz Lovatón highlighted that the alliance represents a strategic public-private partnership that will enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of Dominican MSMEs. He also emphasized that digital platforms have become essential infrastructure for modern commerce, helping connect producers, businesses, and consumers more efficiently.
Uber Eats executive Marco Nannipieri noted that MSMEs account for around 75% of businesses on the platform and stressed the importance of expanding access to digital tools that support their growth. He also described the agreement as a milestone, being the first of its kind in the Caribbean.
The initiative includes several incentives for participating businesses, such as a 10% discount on up to 1,500 Uber Flash deliveries for SMEs referred by MICM during the 2026 Business Roundtables. Newly registered businesses will also receive preferential service rates and advertising credits, depending on their category.
