Dominican Republic plans digital mortgages to help diaspora buy homes

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic is developing five digital financial initiatives to help Dominicans living abroad buy homes, access credit, invest and save for retirement as part of its RD Meta 2036 strategy.

The Financial Committee said the plan seeks to strengthen the diaspora’s long-term economic ties with the country by expanding access to bank accounts, investment products, alternative credit scoring, digital mortgages, financial education and supplementary pension savings.

One of the key measures is a pilot program that will allow Dominicans abroad to purchase and finance properties remotely, completing transactions and mortgage registration without traveling to the country, subject to legal requirements. The initiative will involve the Association of Housing Builders and Developers (Acoprovi), real estate developers, local banks, the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) and the Real Estate Jurisdiction.

The strategy also seeks to connect affordable housing opportunities with financing for Dominican families, while channeling diaspora resources into investment, construction and economic growth.

According to the committee, the initiatives support the government’s goal of doubling the Dominican economy by 2036.
