Dominican Republic ranks among top six countries in regional digital health test

Panama City.- The Dominican Republic placed among the top six countries out of 20 participants at the 5th Regional Digital Health Connectathon held in Panama City, demonstrating its ability to securely exchange clinical information under international interoperability standards.

The achievement strengthens the country’s progress in implementing its National Digital Health Strategy and advancing toward a more integrated digital health system.

During the PH4H 2026 Regional Conference, Dominican technical teams completed 100% of the planned test cases, positioning the country among the best-performing delegations in the regional exercise. The tests evaluated the exchange of health information between countries in real-world scenarios.

The exercises focused on five key areas: the International Patient Summary (IPS), cross-border teleconsultations, electronic yellow fever vaccination certificates, electronic prescriptions, and cybersecurity mechanisms.

The successful results demonstrated the country’s ability to generate and share clinical summaries, validate digital vaccination certificates, process telemedicine requests, access medication information, and use security tools such as digital signatures and QR codes to protect health data.

The Ministry of Public Health said the experience represents an important step toward implementing the Single Electronic Health Record (EEUS), which will allow authorized access to patients’ clinical information regardless of where it was generated.
