Dominican Republic to host 12th Ibero-American Meeting of Museums

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic will host the 12th Ibero-American Meeting of Museums from September 14 to 16, 2026, bringing together museum professionals from across the region for discussions on public policy, heritage and the future of the sector.

The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture, the General Directorate of Museums and the Ibermuseums Program, which has promoted the meeting since 2007 as a leading forum for cooperation, technical exchange and the development of museum policies in Ibero-America.

Held in the Dominican Republic for the first time, the gathering will take place under the theme “Shared Heritages, Common Futures.” It will focus on challenges facing museums and ways to strengthen regional cooperation and exchange best practices.

The agenda includes discussions on heritage diversity and social engagement, the impact of artificial intelligence on museum narratives, and the protection of biocultural territories amid climate risks.

The meeting is supported by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, Centro León, Banco Popular Dominicano, the Indotel Center and the Banreservas Cultural Center.

The Ibermuseums Program currently brings together 22 countries and supports the development of more than 10,000 museums across Ibero-America through cooperation, professional training, knowledge exchange and the development of public policies aimed at sustainable museum development.
