Dominican Republic to host Regional Digital Government Summit with 20 countries in October
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic will host a major regional meeting on digital government on October 1 and 2, bringing together government officials from around 20 Latin American and Caribbean countries. President Luis Abinader is scheduled to participate in the opening ceremony.
The event will bring together the IX Ministerial Meeting of Digital Government of the Americas and the XX Annual Meeting of the Inter-American Network of Digital Government (Red Gealc), providing a forum for dialogue and cooperation on public-sector modernization.
The meeting is supported by the Ministry of Public Administration (MAP), the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Co-Develop.
The Dominican Republic is hosting the event while holding the 2026 presidency of the Red Gealc Network, represented by the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (Ogtic). Its director general, Edgar Batista, also serves as president of the network this year.
The meetings will take place at the JW Marriott Santo Domingo, with discussions focused on digital public infrastructure, interoperability, digital identity, data governance, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
Batista said the Dominican Republic’s leadership provides an opportunity to contribute to a regional digital transformation agenda based on cooperation and the exchange of practical solutions.
The program will also include the ExcelGOB Awards, which recognize innovative digital government initiatives aimed at improving public services and putting citizens at the center of public management.
Delegations from countries including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Panama, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uruguay, among others, are expected to participate.
For the Dominican Republic, the meeting will provide an opportunity to showcase its advances in digital services and public-sector innovation while strengthening regional cooperation on digital transformation.
