Dominican Republic to present water and sanitation progress at OAS

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic will present its progress in drinking water and coastal sanitation at an extraordinary meeting of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) of the Organization of American States (OAS) this Thursday, September 10.

Wellington Arnaud, executive director of the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (INAPA), will deliver the main presentation on the country’s Coastal Water and Sanitation Program during the meeting at the OAS headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Held under the theme “Clean Water, Strong Communities, a More Resilient Hemisphere,” the meeting will focus on exchanging experiences and identifying solutions to regional challenges involving water, sanitation and community resilience.

Arnaud is expected to highlight the Dominican Republic’s experience in expanding access to drinking water, improving sanitation infrastructure and protecting coastal communities and ecosystems, as well as the lessons that could contribute to greater cooperation among OAS member states.

The event will include remarks from OAS Secretary General Albert Ramdin, CIDI President and Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent Representative to the OAS, Sir Ronald Sanders, and Dominican Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the organization, Mayerlyn Cordero Díaz.

The CIDI, one of the OAS’s principal organs, is made up of the organization’s member states and promotes cooperation aimed at integral development and poverty reduction.

Following the presentations, participating delegations will have an opportunity to ask questions and exchange views, providing a forum to strengthen regional cooperation on sustainable water and sanitation solutions.
